ELKHART – The Cass County Prosecutor's Office has authorized open murder charges against 59-year-old Edward Hensley, who is accused of stabbing his sister to death in their southwest Michigan home.
He was arrested Friday night. His sister, Martha Sexton, was found stabbed to death Friday afternoon on US 12 in Cass County’s Mason Township.
Initially, police sent out a news release asking for information about Hensley’s whereabouts.
Swat teams scoured the nearby forests shortly after the murder, but he was arrested by Elkhart city police and booked into jail around 11:00 p.m. Friday.
Hensley was held in Elkhart County over the weekend on no bond, and is expected to be extradited to Cass County Monday.
Family members tell WSBT Hensley has severe mood swings and has had problems with alcohol in the past.
Sexton and Hensley had been living in the house where the stabbing occurred for about 10 days. Hensley’s last known residence before Michigan was in Nappanee.
The memorial service starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home on South Main Street in Goshen.
