IUPUI students start petition to expel Chick-fil-A from campus

The petition questions the university¿s decision to have a vendor on campus that does not share the same views on diversity as the school does.

Chick fil A

Chick fil A (July 27, 2012)

Indiana University Purdue University (IUPUI) students started a petition to remove Chick-fil-A from campus.

The idea began after the president of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, made a statement concerning his sole support for “the biblical definition of the family unit.”

The petition claims that Chick-fil-A illustrates this belief in how they treat certain workers.

“Chick-fil-A offers no employment protections to LGBT individuals and fires employees whom they believe engage in ‘sinful behavior,’” reads the petition.

The petition website claims that this conflicts with the diversity ideals of IUPUI.

“Our policy at IUPUI prohibits against anyone for reasons of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, disability and covered veterans,” reads a statement on IUPUI’s website.

The petition questions the university’s decision to have a vendor on campus that does not share the same views on diversity as the school does. The petition bases its validity on this conflict of interest.
