Elaine Sturgill was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with leg and abdominal injuries. Tuesday morning, hospital officials confirmed to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department she is in fair condition.
The SUV driver, Ana Louisa Malagon, 24, of Warsaw, was arrested on preliminary charges of felony driving while suspended and causing serious bodily injury. The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office set her bond at $2,000; she later bonded out of jail.
Police said Malagon was driving a 2009 Lincoln Navigator east on Market Street and had stopped at the Argonne Road intersection. She then began to turn left onto Argonne Road, but apparently did not see Sturgill riding her bicycle west across the intersection.
The Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team continues to investigate the crash.
