A man told South Bend police he was shot early this morning when he tried to warn a passing driver that their headlights were off.

Shortly before 1 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of McPherson on a report of a possible shooting victim in the area. They were told the victim had left the scene and was at Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his buttocks.

The victim told officers he noticed a large, dark-colored four-door car had its headlights off. He waved his arms to tell them and they rolled the windows down.

The victim said something didn’t feel right and he ran away. That’s when he heard four gunshots and felt a pain in his buttocks.

He ran to a nearby address and a friend drove him to the hospital.
