Snow showers have been falling across the area causing slick roads and a return to winter!
Overnight, accumulations ranged from just a dusting to 2 1/2 inches. This light snow covered up icy patches that formed from this week’s rain then freezing overnight. Wind has also been a huge factor. While those snow totals aren't enormous, there are still travel issues. Since most of the snow is light and airy, it is easily blown around creating visibility problems covering up areas that were once cleared.
Expect more snow through the day and into Saturday. One to two inches of more snow is expected to fall across the region late this afternoon. The heaviest amounts will be far northern Indiana and Michigan.
A Lake Effect Snow Advisory goes into effect from 4 PM to 10 AM tomorrow. This is for Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph counties in Michigan. In these spots, we will see an additional 3 to 4 inches with the far northern areas getting a few isolated spots with just a tad more. This means from the 2 inches last night, the 2 inches today, and the 4 inches tonight, we will receive a total of 8 inches of snow by Friday morning in Southwest Lower Michigan.
In addition to the snowy weather, it is also down right cold. Highs Tuesday and Wednesday were in the 50’s and today we'll stay in the teens with wind chills near zero! As temperatures drop tonight into the single digits, expect wind chills to drop below zero and stay there throughout the day on Friday. Highs on Friday will be near 14 degrees but the wind will make it feel much colder.
Looking toward the weekend, we have another chance of snow Saturday (another few inches possible) but temperatures will be back up into the 20’s for Saturday and Sunday.
