SOUTH BEND – A teenager is behind bars for a shooting in the 200 block of William Street in South Bend.

Police were called to Williams shortly before 6:30 Tuesday night after a 48-year-old man was found covered in blood. A woman waived down a cop, saying the victim was in her bathroom.

We now know the victim was Anthony Fowler. Fowler was shot in the stomach. There's no word on his condition.

About 30 minutes later, officers responded to a call to Southeast Neighborhood Park on Wenger Street, also known as Wenger Park between Fellows and Keasey Streets, where several small children and adults reported seeing a man walking in the park carrying a gun.

There, a 19-year-old black male was taken into custody. The suspect faces a preliminary charge of aggravated battery, possession of a gun without a permit, possession of a firearm with serial number scratched off, and false informing.

Police say the suspect admitted shooting the victim because the man had made “sexual advances toward him.”

Police say the suspect had a felony warrant for his arrest before Tuesday night’s shooting, although no word for what.
