The male victims, ages 16 and 19, were reportedly walking east in the 1000 block of California Avenue about 1:15 a.m. when someone in a westbound car opened fire at them and a third person they were with.
The 16-year-old was shot in the left hip, with the bullet traveling up his abdominal region, and was listed in critical condition at an area hospital Friday morning.
He was found lying in the street, moaning when police arrived.
The 19-year-old victim suffered a small puncture to the upper right area of his abdomen and had a large puncture injury lower down on the left side of his abdomen.
The third person was not injured in the shooting.
The injuries were serious enough that the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating.
Neither victims could provide any suspect information. The vehicle was described to police as a black four-door car with a boxy shape of an unknown make or model.
The man went to a nearby house in the 900 block of North Allen Street and received help from a woman he knows at the address. She called police.
A witness inside a nearby house, told police that they heard six to seven popping noises.
No arrests have been made.
