PLYMOUTH -- Zentis Food Solutions North America is riding the growing
wave of demand for new types of yogurt products.
The company, which produces fruit preparations for the bakery and
dairy industries, announced Monday it will invest $15.6 million to
expand its production capabilities and create up to 67 new jobs by
2014.
Zentis plans to invest in a new allergen production line, a bulk sugar
handling system and mixing vessels. The company also will make
renovations to its 180,000-square-foot plant in Plymouth.
Work on the project will get under way in the next few weeks with the
new allergen production line, but it could take up to two years to
complete, said Norbert Weichele, chief executive officer of Zentis.
The company already is in the process of hiring additional
manufacturing, logistics and management associates, Weichele said. The
company currently has 267 employees.
Zentis, which is a part of a family-owned confectioner based in
Germany, moved into the former Ready Pack plant in 2007 not long after
it closed as a result of the national scare about E. coli in spinach.
Weichele said the company was fortunate to find an empty plant with a
