The South Bend Common Council voted 6 to 3 Monday night in an executive session to appoint an outside attorney to investigate all the wiretapping cases that have been heard by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals...in a continued effort to get the tapes released.
They set a limit for the cost of the attorney at $10,000. They don't know who it will be or how long the person will work on the case.
This is in response to the wiretapping investigation at the South Bend Police Department. Former Police Communications Director Karen DePeape says the recordings have racially charged comments on them and she took them to then police Chief Daryl Boykins because she thought it was the right thing to do.
DePeape ended up being fired and Boykins demoted.
