This happened around 3 p.m. Manny Singh, a manager at Yoder's Truck Stop, told our reporter he heard a very loud explosion originating at the Yoder Oil property, which is right next door.

A man working on an elevated platform was using a torch to cut some metal, when a nearby tank that looks to be 2 stories tall erupted in flames, Singh said.

"He was on fire when he fell down," said Singh, "he was burned pretty bad."

A large tank appeared heavily damaged, leaning severely to one side, which black soot along one side. Police were on-scene interviewing witnesses.

The extent of the man's injuries are unknown at this time. A helicopter was called immediately upon dispatch. The victim was driven to Elkhart Airport where he was flown by a Samaritan helicopter to a Fort Wayne burn center, according to the airport director.

According to its website, Yoder Oil is a company that supplies lubricants and fuel to industrial customers. A company representative declined to comment on what happened.
