Police are investigating the shooting death of a 23-year-old man in the 900 block of Lavette Avenue in Benton Harbor.
Officers dispatched to Lavette around 2:49 a.m. Sunday found Xavier Steward of Benton Township lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Michigan State Police were the first on scene and gave aid until medics arrived to take Steward to Lakeland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police say two vehicles may be involved in the shooting: A silver Dodge Charger with blue stripes and a silver Ford Focus with an Indiana registration plate.
