GRANGER – Starting Monday, another phase of construction will shut down portions of Brick Road on both side of S.R. 23.

The construction area on S.R. 23 between Brick Road and Adams Road is hard to avoid, but you don’t have to tell that to the people who live on both sides of the highway.

Orange barrels, bulldozers, and subcontractors are very much a part of the neighborhood, like the trees, birds and cars.

The road widening project which started a year ago is growing.

Larry Scheibelhut said Elm Road is blocked to the east with ‘road closed’ signs and he said the only other route to S.R. 23 is blocked, as well.

“I hear some of my neighbors are having a heck of a time with it,” said Scheibelhut. “They are still rushing to make the clock. They get a little irritated.”

Turn lanes will be added at both sides of the Brick Road intersection.

The west side of Brick Road was supposed to close Wednesday, but a sub-contractor delayed the project until Monday the earliest.

Portions of the intersection on the east side of Brick Road has been closed to traffic since late April.

If you are travelling on SR 23, INDOT recommends:

EASTBOUND

If you want to get to Brick Road west, take Clover Trail North to Brick.

WESTBOUND

Traffic will pass Brick Road – take the first right at the light to Capital Avenue/Clover Trail. The road will dead end into Brick.

Construction on the eastbound side will continue until the end of May, westbound side will continue until the end of June.

The project, which started on this stretch between Brick and Adams Road a year ago, will continue until the end of June.
