DETROIT (AP) — A man and his mother have made their first appearance in trial court in the death of a 12-year-old Detroit girl who police say was shot during a dispute over a cellphone.

Kade'jah Davis was killed Jan. 31 by shots fired through the door of her home.

Joshua Brown is charged with first-degree murder. Thirty-five-year-old Heather Brown is charged with being an accessory after the fact. She's accused of driving her 19-year-old son to and from the killing.

The Browns were arraigned Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court. A final conference is scheduled May 30, and the trial is scheduled June 25.

Joshua Brown lawyer Joshua Gordon says there's no evidence his client had or fired a gun that day. Heather Brown lawyer Randall Upshaw says she's a good person.
