A 10-year-old Hartford boy is in fair condition in Bronson Methodist Hospital intensive care unit with a head injury after a vehicle struck the young bicyclist Tuesday evening.

The boy was trying to cross West Main Street at Hartford Boulevard when he apparently rode into the path of a westbound vehicle, Hartford Police said via a news release issued Wednesday morning.

Police said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in driver Shantal Dominquez, 19, of Hartford, colliding with the bike.

Initially the youth was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Watervliet and later transferred to Bronson.

“Our prayers are with this young man for a full, speedy recovery,” Hartford Police Chief Ramon Beltran said.
