Galien Township Schools will remain open for the 2012-2013 academic year, following a 5-2 board vote Monday night.
DeeAnne Lashua has worked tirelessly to convince school board members Galien Township Schools is an irreplaceable asset in her daugther's life. "I know she would still receive an excellent education here.”
But at what cost will that education be provided?
The district will eliminate seventh and eighth grades, beginning with the 2012-2013 year. With those grades eliminated, enrollment is expected to drop further.
Superintendent Tim Allard says the district will only budget for 45 students in the 2012-2013 year.
Once the budget for next school year is complete in June, some school staff might face layoffs. Currently there are seven teachers and about seven administration positions.
As for classrooms, there’ll be much empty space and Allard says for now, those classrooms will remain idle.
