MISHAWAKA – Don't get behind the wheel if you've been drinking.
That's the message from St. Joseph County police.
Starting Friday, police in Indiana will launch an effort to crackdown on impaired and dangerous driving.
It's called "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."
“We want people to go out, be able to celebrate the holiday festivities and celebrate watching their favorite basketball team during March Madness in a positive way,” said Mishawaka Police Lt. Tim Williams. “We don’t want it to end up in a tragic way like we’ve had in St. Joseph County where we’ve had three fatals.”
Williams says he would like St. Patrick's Day to be like New Year's Eve in St. Joseph County when there were no alcohol-related crashes or arrests.
He says the best way to avoid a ticket is to have a plan – designate a driver or call a cab even before you go out.
