Fire crews were busy Thursday morning battling a house fire on South Bend's east side.

Firefighers were sent to a home in the 600 block of East Haney Street after a passer-by called 911 to say the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Neighbors say one person lives in the house, but he was not home at the time. Fortunately, firefighters were able to put the blaze out relatively quickly ... but crews are not sure for how long the fire had been burning.

Investigators estimated the damage to the home to be $20,000 with an additional $2,000 in damage to the occupant's possessions. A cause has not been determined.
