SOUTH BEND – There are jobs out there but not enough skilled workers.
On Wednesday, people from all over Indiana gathered in South Bend to show they've got what it takes.
It's all part of the Apprentice Competition going on at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 172 Union and Training Facility.
There's plumbing, pipefitting, welding and HVAC.
The top person from each field moves on to the regional competition in May.
It's a chance to show vendors, businesses and anyone else in attendance that the apprentices are qualified and ready to work.
“Building our training facility here allows us to get more hands-on training and develop the skills so that when they become journeymen and working with the contractors, the contractors have the responsibility of taking care of the customers and service their needs, so we have to be able to adapt,” said apprentice coordinator Broc Buczolich.
A national competition will be held in Ann Arbor in August.
