    They cost only a few dollars but could save you and your family if your home catches fire. Several recent fires in the Roanoke area could have been put out much faster if the homes had smoke detectors. The Roanoke Fire Department handed out free smoke detectors today. The firefighters teamed up with the American Red Cross, Safe Kids and &quot;Hope Worldwide" for the event which is in its second year.
