  21. Status of Roads in South Central PA in Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

    As dawn approaches on Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is dealing with about 160 closed roads in south central Pennsylvania as the result of Hurricane Sandy. Most of these roads are closed due to flooding. Downed trees and utilities are also major causes of these closures. The majority of the road closures are in York County (58) and Lancaster County (40). There are also road closures in Lebanon County (15), Dauphin County (13), Adams County (12), Franklin County (9), Perry County (7) and Cumberland County (5). The majority of these road closures were reported  Monday night between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

    The weather is certainly different than the past several days. It's a bit raw outside but the rain and wind has slowed down considerably. But now is the hard part. The cleanup is underway across the area as power crews try and restore electricity to almost 12,000 still in the dark here in Central Pennsylvania. Road crews are also trying to reopen hundreds of roads closed by high waters.
