5. C. Everett Koop dies at 96; former U.S. surgeon general

In the mid-1980s, the emerging AIDS epidemic was a high-profile target of vocal conservatives. Politicians and the religious right called for sweeping measures against those diagnosed with AIDS, including quarantine of patients, mandatory screening of homosexuals for the AIDS virus and a host of other measures that would victimize patients and keep the disease and the diseased hidden from public light.

  9. Compartés' Jonathan Grahm -- the new face of chocolate?

Jonathan Grahm, the owner of Compartés Chocolatier in Brentwood, is just back from a whirlwind pre-Valentine's Day tour of Japan, where 100 Compartés pop-up shops opened for the holiday in Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Hiroshima, Nagoya and Kobe. Grahm's face has been plastered on billboards, little old ladies in kimonos vied for his autograph, designers wanted his chocolates to coordinate with their products (underwear, for example) and fans showered him with gifts (such as a Mickey Mouse action figure).

  13. 2/5/2013-King Richard III Bones Found

Some cartoons are just for laughs. This is one of them. This is a cartoonist's way of saying, "They found King Richard III. I didn't know he was missing!" Cartoonists always end a sentence or a thought with an exclamation point. The vanished union leader Jimmy Hoffa, former president of the Teamsters and a pal of mobsters, has captured our imagination in the way another mysterious disappearance had back in the 1930s.
