  17. Hundreds start the new year with a plunge in the Susquehanna River

It was a cold & wet start to the new year for dozens of "plungers" in Harrisburg.
Saturday marked the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area's 14th Annual Penguin Plunge. Those who took part, by jumping into the Susquehanna River, raised more than $33,000 for the animal shelter.
"We are here really to make their lives as comfortable and good, make them feel loved as much as they can until they find that right home," says Kelly Hitz, Harrisburg Humane Society Director of Public Relations.
A challenge from a co-worker led to Patrick Uffner's more than $3,000 contribution.
"I said you know you're crazy. It's going be cold water and after I thought about it, I said you know it's for a great cause."
