Old Westbury

Beginnings: Old Westbury's roots are far from the Gatsby-era Gold Coast mansions for which it is now famous. Edmond Titus and Henry Willis were the first European settlers there. Willis named the area Westbury after a town in his home county of Wiltshire, England. Farmers were attracted because of its combination of plains, useful for farming, and forests, which supplied firewood. Indeed, it was known alternately as Plainedge or Wood edge. As the village of Westbury developed, the area to the north was known first as Westbury Station and then, since 1912, as Old Westbury.

  7. Hundreds of Police Officers Unite and Ride In Honor Of Fallen Cops

When it comes to unity, there may be no more shining example than the men and women we trust to protect us every day. In funeral after funeral this year alone, they came out in numbers to honor their fallen brothers and sisters. And today, up to 700 police officers will start bicycling hundreds of miles over the next few days to remember the hundreds who paid with their lives for your safety. The Police Unity Tour kicked off this morning.
