    Record Store Day began in 2007 as a way for the independent record store community to have a holiday of sorts to rally around, a focal point for the year. Since then it has fallen annually on the third Saturday of April and grown steadily. Special vinyl and CD releases are made available for one day only. In-store performances are held. There are cook-outs and DJs, contests and meet and greets — and since most every shop is independently owned, each puts its own hyper-local spin on it.
