  9. Maryland, Big Ten discussed travel costs

    The Baltimore Sun
Terps fans may remember a spate of stories from 2010 – including a couple by me – about possible early interest by the Big Ten in Maryland. One of the issues that surfaced then from Terps supporters was travel. There were two concerns...

  11. Former Terps football coach Joe Krivak dies at 77

Bobby Ross got much of the credit for Maryland's short reign as the most dominant team in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the mid 1980s, but Joe Krivak was often referred to as the guru and play-caller for a string of record-setting Terps quarterbacks.

  13. In Army-Navy rivalry, Black Knights can't keep up with Midshipmen

Nine months before Bobby Ross came out of retirement to coach football at Army in December 2003, the United States began its military involvement in Iraq. As he dug into his new job at West Point, Ross was thinking more about how to rebuild a team that had lost all its games the previous season than the escalating casualties of war.

  15. 'Special admissions' bring colleges top athletes, educational challenges

It has become part of college sports -- as ingrained as dunks and FieldTurf -- for large universities to accept prized basketball and football recruits and other athletes under more forgiving admissions criteria than are used for other students.

  19. Kenyan Kikanae Punyua pursues his dreams in an imperiled Terps program

COLLEGE PARK -- The college 5K race was ending too soon for University of Maryland freshman Kikanae Punyua. He summoned his legs to stride faster but felt instead an unnerving sense of fatigue — a vulnerability unfamiliar to a 20-year-old who had rarely confronted limits to his athletic promise.

  23. Change will be good for Maryland sports

As the Maryland basketball beat writer for The Sun for more than a decade, I always enjoyed making multiple trips to the state of North Carolina every winter. I saw Len Bias single-handedly give North Carolina its first defeat in a then brand-new Dean Dome. I witnessed the obnoxious Duke students at Cameron Indoor Stadium chanting “CBA ... CBA ... CBA ...”  in the direction of future NBA player Walt Williams.  I had a front-row seat for more than a few great ACC tournament games.
