1. Coffee Companion (10/11): your daily Ravens fix

Every morning, Monday through Friday, blogger Matt Vensel will hook you up with reading material -- mostly on the Ravens but with some other Baltimore sports stuff, too -- to skim through as you slug down coffee and slack off at the start of your workday. That way he’ll have an excuse to do the same to start his workday, too.

  5. The Sun Remembers: Sept. 16-22

Sept. 18, 2005: The Ravens rush for 14 total yards — a franchise low — and quarterback Anthony Wright is sacked six times in Baltimore's 25-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans. "There's no explaining it," coach Brian Billick says of his 0-2 team's inept play. "We will find the answers within ourselves."

  7. More on the Eagles' wide-nine defensive alignment

I apologize in advance for my fascination with the "wide-nine" alignment that the Philadelphia Eagles will often use on defense Sunday, but if you are as curious about it as I am, then you probably won’t mind me expounding on it a little further on the blog. And if you’re not as curious, maybe this stat will pique your interest: The Eagles were first in the NFL with 50 sacks in 2011, and they did it by rushing just four players 82 percent of the time, according to the fine folks at Football Outsiders. Trent Cole and Jason Babin combined for 29 of those sacks.

  9. Art Modell remembered for doing 'so much for the game and community'

On a cool, clear day made for football, <a href="/bal-modell,0,2641436.storygallery">Art Modell</runtime:link> was laid to rest. Just 12 hours after the Ravens won their opener, 44-13 over the Cincinnati Bengals, more than 400 people — including quarterback Joe Flacco, running back Ray Rice and linebacker Ray Lewis — gathered at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation to pay homage to Modell, the team's former owner, who died at 87 on Sept. 6.
