Each morning, Monday through Friday, I'll hook you up with some reading material to skim through as you slug down coffee and slack off at the start of your workday -- that way I'll have an excuse to do the same at the start of mine.

  3. Five for Friday: Five reasons to be pessimistic about the Orioles

In last week’s Five for Friday post, I half-filled my coffee mug with orange Kool-Aid, listing five reasons to be optimistic about the Orioles finally breaking the .500 mark in 2011. But today, my mug is half-empty, and the sweet taste of winning baseball has been replaced by Haterade.

Some early BP before this week’s oil spill of a City Series: Who goes crazier tonight, Cubs runners on Gavin Floyd or the flash mob in Carlos Zambrano’s head? Web poll! Or maybe the question should be: Who do the Cubs run on more, Gavin...

  9. Your turn: Should the Orioles listen to offers for Guthrie?

In case you missed it over the weekend, my colleague Peter Schmuck raised an excellent question in his column for Saturday’s newspaper. Would it make sense for the Orioles to trade veteran starter Jeremy Guthrie, who has never had a full winning...

  11. Orioles' offense breaks out in 8-3 win over Pirates

For weeks, they promised that an offensive outburst like this one was coming. Even as the scoring opportunities vanished amid ill-timed strikeouts and double-play balls, the Orioles maintained that they were a good offensive club and it was only a matter of time before they showed it.

  13. All Orioles' problems come to forefront as they close road trip with 5-4 loss to Pirates

With Blake Davis' decisive error in the fifth inning Wednesday, the Orioles had their defining play on a highly disappointing road trip and an easy scapegoat for another avoidable loss.

  15. Five for Friday: Five reasons for Orioles optimism in 2011

The Orioles have given Baltimore 13 straight seasons of losing baseball, a streak that would make them the laughingstock of the major leagues if not for that train wreck of an organization in Pittsburgh. There still has been plenty of giggling at the Orioles’ expense since 1997, but for the first time in what feels like a long time, people are taking the Orioles seriously heading into 2011.

  19. Q&A with Rob Neyer: Showalter will get Orioles to 82 wins

Nationally-known baseball blogger and numbers geek Rob Neyer joined SB Nation as its national baseball editor on Feb. 1 after 15 years at ESPN. He took time out of his busy schedule at his new gig to chat with me Wednesday about the 2011 Orioles, and I thank him for that.

  21. Forget the new guys; 2011 is all about the young guns

An active offseason has both Birdland and the baseball world chirping about the possibility of a winning season for the Orioles. President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail brought in a bunch of name players this winter who bring skills, credibility and, hopefully, production to the Orioles.

  23. Let's all give our predictions for the Orioles' batting order

We will see a totally different lineup in 2011 after the Orioles upgraded at four positions this offseason. Gone are the instant outs of Julio Lugo and Cesar Izturis (well, at least Izturis will only be an instant out once or twice a week), replaced with intriguing hitters such as Vladimir Guerrero, Mark Reynolds and Derrek Lee.
