  11. Claude Strickler, 92, King George, Va.

    Claude Strickler, 92, King George, Va., passed away Sept. 9, 2011, at home in King George, Va., where he resided with his daughter, Diana and her husband George. He was born July 22, 1919, in Luray, Va., a son of the late John F Strickler Sr. and the late Lillie Moyer Strickler. He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Dorothy L Strickler and brother, John F Strickler Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Lee Seighman and husband George of King George,Va. and Claudia Elaine Wilbraham and husband Ed of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Coal Center. Life member of the Valley of Uniontown, AASR, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA, Tri County Lodge 252, Donora; Charleroi Elks Lodge 494 and a life member of the Brightwell-Daughtery American Legion Post 484, Fayette City. Claude and his wife Dorothy lived in Cloverhill, in the 1940s and early 1950s where they were members of the Clover Hill/Grace United Methodist Church. He served as Grange master of the West Pike Run Grange in the 1950s. For most of his adult life he was a figure caller for square dances in Southwestern Pa. and Western Md. He was active with square dancing groups that participated in events such as the Winchester Apple Blossom Parade and a parade honoring the military in Washington, D.C. He was an auctioneer in the mid-1960s at Stricklers’ Barn which he co-owned with his brother. Claude was retired from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He was a volunteer for the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Friends will be received  6-8 p.m. Monday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Eley-McCrory Funeral Home Inc., 334 Main St., Fayette City, Pa., 724-326-5621, www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Dr. John K. Smith and the Rev. Randy Landman co-officiating. Interment will follow in the LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
