  1. The IDentity Festival's forward-thinking dance music hits Jiffy Lube Live

Let's first get this out of the way: I'm no dance-music expert. My appreciation is genuine but would be considered cursory by DFA-heads: I've seen an A-Trak set, love LCD Soundsystem and know how to hit a dance floor without making a complete fool out of myself. (Friends might question that last tidbit.) But when I saw the<strong> <a href=&quot;http://idfestival.com/city/bristow/" target="_blank">IDentity Festival</a></strong>, a celebration of forward-thinking electronic music, was today at Jiffy Lube Live, I had to blog about it.

  3. August 15 - 21 in nightlife: Kesha, Bob Dylan, IDentity Festival, Rap Round Robin

Lots of marquee performers are in the area this week - Kesha, Bob Dyland and Leon Russell, a bunch of djs at the traveling music festival IDentity. But the signature event of the week is clearly the annual <a href=&quot;http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/midnight_sun/blog/2011/06/rapdragons_height_with_friends.html" target="_self">Rap Round Robin</a>, which this year will feature performances by AK Slaughter, Rap Dragons, Mickey Free and Height. Also this week: in addition to Bill Cosby, who will be at Pier Six, Martin Lawrence will also be in town, performing at 1st Mariner Arena.

  5. August 22-28 in nightlife: Train & Maroon 5, Future Islands, Silopanna Music Festival

It's a crowded week. Elsewhere: Chuck Brown celebrates his 75th, Journey, and the Out of Your Head collective.

There are no festivals in Baltimore this weekend, but there are a handful of excellent shows. And Deadmau5 is performing in the area again. I'm looking forward to The Walkmen at Merriweather, who are opening for Fleet Foxes. Elsewhere, there is: Moby at the Hippodrome (of all places), Big in Japan at Ottobar, Matmos, a Height with Friends tour kick-off show, Wilco and Brad Paisley.
