  7. Review: L.A.'s satisfying sprawl

Architecture exhibitions are notoriously tricky to pull off. It's hard to squeeze a whole building inside a museum, after all. And the number of forces that shape any piece of architecture — engineering, politics and money, to begin with — make it impossible to say with perfect clarity how a building came to be or what it means.

  13. Surveillance cameras and the Boston Marathon bombing

Investigators in the Boston Marathon bombing <a href=&quot;http://www.boston.com/metrodesk/2013/04/17/boston-medical-center-reports-five-year-old-boy-critical-condition-victims-treated-from-boston-marathon-bombings/gkKXBTqL2jyNhsC2Kz5GyO/story.html">closed in</a> on suspects with surprising alacrity, shifting from "few leads" to "possible arrests" in a matter of hours. That's due in part to the ample resources and expertise that city, state and federal authorities threw at the crime scene. But it also reflects how much investigators had to work with. We should celebrate the former but think carefully about the latter.

  21. Has Baltimore gotten religion on speed cameras?

Baltimore's speed cameras are off-line for the second time this year after officials found faults with some of the tickets issued by the city's new camera system vendor. Officials say they will void or refund nearly 600 erroneous tickets. We would be inclined to compliment the city for how seriously it is taking the responsibility to eliminate all errors from the program if there weren't something so odd about this latest twist in the Baltimore speed camera saga.
