    Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence seemed to be all smiles Wednesday night at a pre-Oscars party sponsored by Vanity Fair, Barneys New York and the Weinstein Co. in honor of &quot;Silver Linings Playbook" and in support of the Glenholme School, a boarding school for special-needs students. Film director David O. Russell has said his work on the film was inspired by his experiences with his own son Matthew, who is a student at the school and who was also a guest at the party. The event was one of Vanity Fair's Campaign Hollywood week-long series of charitable events leading up to the Oscars.     In a bustling part of downtown L.A., a high-rise is teeming with stylish young women in short skirts and full makeup wheeling small suitcases in and out of elevators on their way to class. They're students at the Fashion Institute of Design &amp; Merchandising, where, down the hall from a flat-screen TV broadcasting a runway show, past a plexiglass case of high-fashion Barbies, two of their peers are consulting with Mary Stephens, the school's self-described &quot;big boss."&para;"This is a very new-looking shape here," says Stephens, FIDM's director of fashion design. She is talking to Alejandro Ortega, one of 11 students the school has accepted into its advanced fashion design program this year and one of the 8,000 students enrolled on FIDM's four California campuses.

    Spring merchandise has officially hit the stores, and one trend should be immediately noticeable: bright colors. They were everywhere on the spring-summer 2011 runways, including at the Jil Sander show, where candy colors managed to look minimal when shown with crisp white shirts or layered with sleek black coats, and at Rachel Roy and Burberry, where various tones of shocking aqua and cobalt were paired for a cool (and somehow punchy) look.
