  1. The gnarly beauties of fall

OK, I'm over it now: Summer veggies from the farmers market are no more. I've stopped lamenting the absence of local corn and garden-fresh tomatoes. If I shift my cooking methods just a bit, I can embrace the bounty of cold-weather veggies.

  7. From anchovies to penne

Nothing makes weeknight dinners easier than keeping a fully stocked pantry. And nothing says "satisfying weeknight dinner" better than a family-size bowl of seasonally inspired pasta.

  9. The last potpie

For everything that was about to happen, everything that was coming to light, I needed an old-fashioned potpie with a creamy chicken filling and a rich, flaky crust, the kind that puffed up and baked to a golden buttery crisp.

  13. Finding sandwich bliss

Saltie is a sandwich shop, about as big as a saltbox, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I ate there in April 2011 and still think about the sandwiches my companions and I sampled and shared. We tried the Captain's Daughter, whose combination of top-shelf sardines, house-pickled eggs and an herby salsa verde add up to a wildly delicious sum. The Clean Slate, which unites the familiar hummus and quinoa in a unique way with fresh sauerkraut, yogurt sauce and sesame seeds, woke us up with a far-from-mundane version of a healthy sandwich.

  15. Getting veggies into kids’ diets

Moms At Work - Orlando Sentinel
My daughter is very picky about what she eats and would be delighted to subsist solely on just white-colored foods such as chicken, rice and crackers. Naturally, her father and I can't allow that to happen, so we find ourselves using trickery to find ways...
