1. The food world on a map

It’s a long way from Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck outside London, to Thomas Keller’s French Laundry in Yountville, Calif., at least in miles, even via plane. But it’s not far at all if you travel conceptually, via lines of food world trends and influence, or at least that’s so if you buy the relationships as mapped out in an interactive diagram called <a href="http://www.hartmansalt.com/food-culture-analyzed/greater-food-culture/228" target="_blank">Greater Food Culture.

3. Chicago's top chefs hold garage sale, bake-sale benefit

Tribune newspaper reporter
Garage sales with mismatched glassware and old power tools are pretty common. The garage sale scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Michelin-starred NAHA restaurant will be anything but common. Dubbed the Culinary Garage Sale & Bake Sale, bargain...

5. Charlie Trotter's garden part of walk tradition

Tribune reporter
There are lots of garden walks in the city and burbs, but very few offer garden visitors corn soup with Manila clams and a peek at the back-of-the-restaurant herb garden of a place like Charlie Trotter’s. But during last weekend’s 43rd...

7. Phil Vettel recommends recently reviewed dining spots

A recap of the restaurants I've reviewed in the last six weeks or so:
A recap of the restaurants I've reviewed in the last six weeks or so: Telegraph 2601 N. Milwaukee Ave., 773-292-9463. The owners of Webster's Wine Bar and The Bluebird created this Logan Square newcomer, which has a predictably impressive wine list (and...

9. Charlie Trotter loves haggis. Honest.

Charlie Trotter loves haggis. Been eating the offal creation born in Scotland for years, thanks to dad Robert Charles Trotter, whose family four generations ago traveled here from a little town outside Edinburgh.

11. Ain't misbehavin': Q&A with Graham Elliot

It's fair to say that both Graham Elliot and his food are polarizing. The Chicago Tribune said Elliot had "another hit on his hands" after dining at his 6-month-old sandwich shop Grahamwich on opening day, while Time Out Chicago issued a scathing one-star review weeks later. On Twitter, he's amassed more than 10,000 followers; some of them fanatically live tweet camera-phone pics of their Grahamwiches, while others have been soured by his unfiltered outbursts. (See: "[Bleep] Chicago magazine" tweet from last summer after a writer critiqued food at a Lollapalooza preview.)

Daily Dish
Ludo Lefebvre, Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook are joining forces to prepare an eight-course foie gras (yes, all foie gras) dinner on Friday, Oct. 14, and Saturday, Oct. 15. -- at least partly to alert people to the coming ban on the production and sale of...

15. Are these chicken nuggets really worth $7?

Chicken nuggets don't have a very healthful reputation.
Tribune reporter
Chicken nuggets don't have a very healthful reputation. Some people I know even use them as shorthand for junky processed foods you feed to kids when you are desperate. And so I was surprised when one of the city's greenest chefs recommended that I...

23. Pass/fail for LP’s old school joints

Lincoln Park
I don’t necessarily get it. Or, I do, because as my first boss taught me “perception is reality.” In any case, I have a love/hate with places that are “supposed to be” awesome. I get excited and go (the love part) and then,...
