Some had waited decades for this. So early Sunday, the first day they could legally wed, same-sex couples in Washington state held marriage ceremonies immediately after midnight and made plans to get hitched en masse.

3. 'Dr. Ruth, All The Way' Much More Than Sex Talk

The first thing actress Debra Jo Rupp wants you to know is that her new role in a solo show about Dr. Ruth is not about sex.
The Hartford Courant
The first thing actress Debra Jo Rupp wants you to know is that her new role in a solo show about Dr. Ruth is not about sex. Well, not all of it anyway. But it's hard not to deal with the subject, especially given the playful title: "Dr. Ruth, All the...

5. He had the moves like Jagger, not to mention Hershey kisses

When people ask us, "How did you meet?" we pause while we try to gauge just how much interest the person has in our story. If she's being polite, she'll get the short version: "We met through friends after college."

7. Lost, found and offering advice

The Esalen Institute in Big Sur beckons thousands for its yoga workshops, meditation retreats and hot springs, but author Cheryl Strayed isn't there to relax. With her husband and children, ages 6 and 8, in tow, Strayed is there to work, teaching an intensive weeklong writing workshop.

9. Haha, whoops

Change of Subject
By Megan Crepeau Whoa. Some of you really don't like the word "teabagger," huh? Look, I'm not going to give you the old "I'm sorry you were offended" non-apology. Such is the province of politicians, middle schoolers and other cowards.......

11. Advice from somebody nobody asked

Change of Subject
Sunday's print column I'm bursting with suggestions and sound counsel, yet, somehow, requests are not pouring in. Therefore, think of this as an unsolicited advice column. Dear Republicans: In the past week I've heard many of you confidently offering...

13. “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition” recap: Put Your Big Girl Panties On and Gid’ Out

Channel Guide Magazine
Dear Abby, Richy and Robin: You may not cause Yvette to go home, because I will have to go back to thinking up my own names for these blogs and I'd rather not. Unless, of course, Yvette stops dropping Yvettisms. Then you go right ahead and do how you do...

15. Abby Lee Miller interview: Abby talks “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition” “Dance Moms” and more

Channel Guide Magazine
She’s the oft-authoritarian, second generation dance teacher who a handful of Pittsburgh mothers and millions of happily scandalized viewers love and loathe — and sometimes both at once — on Lifetime’s reality smash Dance Moms....

17. A house divided against itself again: America splits on gay marriage

Journalist and gay activist Dan Savage often writes about the urban archipelago -- the American cities that are comfortable, safe islands for gays and lesbians set amid a vast sea of countryside where being openly homosexual remains a chancy, even dangerous, proposition. However, after an election in which three more states approved same-sex marriage and a fourth rejected a constitutional amendment ot ban it, perhaps that sea is receding.

19. Savage Love: Working Out Kinks

DEAR READERS: I'm writing this week's column in a drug-induced coma. Well, not quite a coma, but close. I was fighting a cold for two weeks, and the cold won: It morphed into an insanely painful sinus infection — you know it's bad when your doctor urges you to err on the side of too much Vicodin, not too little. So a warning to everyone whose letter appears in this week's column: My reliably sucky advice is probably going to be suckier than usual.

21. After dinner, they grapple for the check

Dear Amy: My girlfriend is great. Her parents are very prosperous. Whenever we go out to dinner, my girlfriend's father lunges for the check and won't let us pay. I swear I try to get it but don't want to create a scene.

23. Savage Love: Bible Bondage

I'm pro-choice. The anti-choice position — particularly the dumb contention that "personhood" begins when sperm hits egg — is illogical and unappealing. It's not the most unappealing quality I can think of in a partner, though — that would probably be dishonesty. Your advice last week to the young woman who discovered that her boyfriend is anti-choice was terrible. You advised LIFE to tell her boyfriend that she's pregnant in order to see if that changes his position. If a woman told me she was against abortion in all circumstances, I would think twice about dating her. If she told me she was pregnant and asked me to support the child, and then told me that she was just seeing how I would react, I would dump her.
