1. Why Should Rush Apologize?

Off The Markley
This may be an unpopular point of view, but why exactly was everyone clamoring for Rush Limbaugh to apologize? I don't understand. When he called Sandra Fluke, advocate of expanded access to birth control, a “slut” and a “prostitute&#...

5. Subject for debate: OTC Plan B for all

Change of Subject
"Plan B," the morning-after contraceptive, is reportedly as safe as aspirin, even when taken by adolescents. Aduilts can buy it over the counter, but I say let everyone buy it who wants it or needs it. In an ideal world,......

7. A birth control double standard

In the uproar about making the morning-after contraceptive known as Plan B available to our daughters, there has been no similar outcry about condoms and our sons. Anyone of any age can walk into a drugstore — as well as most grocery and big-box stores — and buy condoms. If you want to remain anonymous, you can pay cash; no ID is required. If you're too embarrassed to face the checkout clerk, use the self-check aisle or, for $17.97, get a box of 100 — flavored or with "added sensations," even — delivered to your door in a plain brown box.

9. LETTER: Plan B Puts No One at Risk

Regarding "Plan B Decision Praised, Criticized [May 2, CTNow]: Peter Wolfgang's views presented within are misguided and misleading. As a nursing student and contraception advocate, I want to offer some background Mr. Wolfgang left out. Plan B is a...

11. Parent questions birth control query

Dear Amy: My daughter, who is almost 12 years old, visited a hospital a couple of months ago, and a nurse asked her if she uses birth control.
Dear Amy: My daughter, who is almost 12 years old, visited a hospital a couple of months ago, and a nurse asked her if she uses birth control. Is this is an appropriate question to ask a not-quite 12-year-old girl? I feel that it is the kind of question...

13. Getting to responsible sexual health education

As Illinois lawmakers prepare to vote on comprehensive sex education for Illinois' youth (House Bill 2675), they should consider the experience of a young woman who was victimized twice — once by a rapist and again by the inaccurate, ideologically driven, abstinence-only doctrine passed off as sex education in her classroom.

17. Doctoring in a family way

Jennifer was one of my first patients as a new doctor, and she came to see me about an unintended pregnancy. A single mom to a rambunctious 5-year-old girl, Jennifer was struggling economically and battling depression. We talked about the options available to her: continuing the pregnancy and preparing to parent another child, offering the baby for adoption or having an abortion. She chose to continue with the pregnancy, and I worked with her over the following months as she struggled with the discomforts of pregnancy, excessive weight gain and the anxiety of having to raise two small children on her own.

19. Editorial: Abortion in a 'house of horrors'
