Will Smith has had a mostly steady career in music and movies since breaking onto the scene in the 1980s as the Fresh Prince. As a student growing up in West Philadelphia, Smith teamed up with friend Jeff Townes and formed DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. The group's biggest hit was "Parents Just Don't Understand," which earned them the first Grammy for Best Rap Performance. Smith went on to star in NBC's "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air," which was loosely based on his life. He also met his wife Jada Pinkett through the show. With so many summer blockbusters under his belt, including "Independence Day" and "Men in Black," Fourth of July weekend has been nicknamed Big Willie Weekend. Smith shows his range in more dramatic films such as "Six Degrees of Separation," "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happyness." He has received Oscar nominations for "Ali" and "Happyness." « Show less

Watchdog

15. Interview: Never heard of Romeo Santos? Will Smith and Usher could change that

Anthony Santos used to work out at his gym in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood relatively unrecognized. Other than the gym’s Latino staff members, few ever noticed the Bronx native. That changed three years ago when ads featuring Santos — aka Romeo Santos, lead singer of the internationally known bachata band Aventura — began popping up around the city promoting the group’s upcoming concerts.

17. Made in America: Fine suits and a middle class life

Mark Falcone enjoys telling people that the cutters and sewers in his factory in Westminster made 300 suits for Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and the numerous extras of "Men In Black III." But, while the MIB movies might have popularized the black suit for men, mass-produced sameness is hardly English American Tailoring's thing.

19. Thanks for going easy on me, Michael Clarke Duncan

My first interview on the celebrity beat, in 2009, should have been a total disaster. I’d never spent an entire afternoon with an actor before and stupidly listened to another journalist who told me I shouldn’t write down notes or tape-record as the subject is speaking because it could hurt the flow and intimacy of the conversation. As a result, I had barely any quotes and details to work with and it showed in my poorly written article.

**1/2 (out of four)
**1/2 (out of four) In movie time, how long has it been since 2002? So long that the vapid “Men in Black II” co-starred Lara Flynn Boyle. Yet despite its reported $375 million budget, “Men in Black 3” arrives as a small movie...
