3. Personal stories and a shiny red paint job in 'Hardbody'

BROADWAY REVIEW: "Hands on a Hardbody" ... Despite the salacious title, the hardbody at the core of the newest Broadway musical has no pulse. It's a big, shiny, red Nissan truck.
NEW YORK — Despite the salacious title, the hardbody at the core of the newest Broadway musical has neither pliable tissue nor a pulse nor anything sexy, really, to return to those who stretch out their desperate hands for a feel of its sharp...

11. Philistines Jr. Play Two Boots in Bridgeport on Nov. 29

Peter Katis is the producer that put Bridgeport on the indie rock recording map thanks to his work at Tarquin Studios in the Park City with bands like Interpol, the National and recently, Trey Anastasio. His brother Tarquin (get it? Tarquin Studios) and he have a band called Philistines Jr. in which they've been recording their own music since 1990. Lately, the Philistines have been using Adam Pierce, a.k.a. Mice Parade, as their drummer. They'll be playing Indie Thursdays at Two Boots this week, a free, high-quality indie rock show if ever there was one. Fins and Paxatonia are also on the bill.

13. Les Claypool's strange frequencies

If you've seen Les Claypool wearing a lobster suit in Primus' 2011 music video for the song "Tragedy's A'Comin'," you know the frontman is a genius of weird, and a goofball. But if you're a die-hard fan of the funk-metal trio, you've known that since the early '90s.

19. Rupa and the April Fishes Play Real Art Ways in Hartford on Sept. 20

<span style="font-size: small;">Rupa Marya sings in English, French, Spanish, Hindi and Tzotzil, a Mayan language spoken in the Mexican Chiapas state. She could sing in other languages if she wanted to. Marya’s band, Rupa and the April Fishes, similarly play global music: Gypsy swing, punk rock, Bollywood songs, cumbia, reggae and duduk. They are named for the French expression “les poissons d’avril,” whose English equivalent is most likely “April Fools.” The April Fishes formed in San Francisco during the George W. Bush presidency, which seems fitting.

21. Primus Heads to Bridgeport on July 21 to Lead the Vibes Brigade

<span style="font-size: medium;">One of the greatest moments in bassist Les Claypool’s career came only a few months ago, at a fundraiser for Barack Obama. “It was me, Booker T. Jones and Charlie Musselwhite,” Claypool told me over the phone. “I played ‘Green Onions’ with Booker T. while the President was jogging into the room.” The 50-year-old song was one he’d performed with cover bands at biker bars, close to where he grew up in El Sobrante, Calif. “And now I’m playing it as the President is walking into a room.” As Obama was leaving, the trio kicked off “Time is Tight,” another MGs classic. “And there’s Al Green air-bassing and making a goofy face right in front of me. It was fucking surreal.”

23. 4 Decades On, Little Feat Spin One More Yarn

<span style="font-size: medium;">If you casually read through the roller-coaster history of the band Little Feat, who’ll play a show this Wednesday at the Ridgefield Playhouse, you might think the music itself would be locked in an ongoing identity crisis lasting 40 years. You’d read about the occasional game-changing tragedy, seismic lineup change, whack-a-mole commercial triumph or surprising pop-culture reference, all of which happened.
