  1. Amazon pilots (Part 3): The comedies

In two previous posts, I discussed the Amazon pilots, a slate of proposed series by the cyberspace bookseller turned virtual moving-picture studio, <a href=&quot;https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1001155581&amp;ref=lpc_1">now streaming online</a> for viewer comment and ratings. (Thousands have already chimed in.) The <a href="http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-critics-notebook-amazon-tv-pilots-20130423,0,2585137.story">first post</a> was for background and context; <a href="http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-amazon-pilots-childrens-shows-20130424,0,3536159.story">the second</a> looked at six projected children's shows.

He's the guy getting a lot of ear action. Tony Hale is back as the vice president's boy Friday in HBO's political comedy "Veep." In the midst of Washington chaos, he's never too far from Selina's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) ear, ready to whip out hand...

Figures pulled straight out of the Leviathan: The Season 2 premiere of HBO's "Veep" drew 1.2-million viewers. The half-hour political comedy, a palate cleanser of sorts to the dragons and vicious battles in "Game of Thrones," returned Sunday in the 10...

  9. For Reid Scott of 'Veep,' horror-movie ambitions

Cable television can offer a pretty fruitful career for a young actor, what with the juicy roles&nbsp; and the increasingly abundant viewership.

  11. 'VEEP' goes deep in Season 2, and there's more Julia Louis-Dreyfus to love

"Deep" and "sitcom" are not words often used in the same sentence. But a visit to the "VEEP" soundstage in Columbia gave a glimpse of the larger cultural power of this savvy satire from HBO, returning for its second season Sunday night. I also came away...

  15. TV picks: Louis C.K., 'Veep,' Wonder Woman, woolly mammoths

<strong>&quot;Louis C.K.: Oh My God" (premieres Saturday, HBO)</strong>. Funny, deep and unsparing of himself, Louis C.K. is arguably the most important comic going, both for his adventures in form -- his FX series "Louie," now on hiatus between its third and fourth seasons, grafts art film, standup and situation comedy -- and his experiments in business. He earned more than $1 million by selling unrestricted-use downloads of his 2011 "Live at the Beacon Theater" straight to fans at $5 a pop; similarly he sold tickets to the tour during which "Oh My God" was taped/filmed/recorded directly through his website, cutting out ticket agency fees and keeping prices low. (One hundred thousand tickets were sold, at $45 per, in 45 hours.) Also in the spirit of giving value for money, it's his habit to burn all his material after a year, so the jokes in this concert, from the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, are All Fresh.
