    The Baltimore Sun
"TV is a vast wonderland. There's no place like TV. Except for HBO, it's not TV." That was the opening lyric sung by Jane Lynch, and it left me ice cold. It didn't work as a show tune, and it failed worse in its attempt to cut it as both salute and...

    Zap2It
When trimming a household budget, premium cable is an easy expense to cut. Hold on to your HBO, though. Its "Mildred Pierce" miniseries, premiering March 27 and spread out over three Sundays, is worth it. Kate Winslet turns in a sublime performance as...

  9. Maria Bello nails the 'Prime Suspect' while helping the poor

    Zap2It
Much has been made that Detective Jane Timoney of NBC's Thursday drama "Prime Suspect" deals with venomous sexism on the job. Often, it's men noting this inequality. Perhaps women, like the show's star, Maria Bello, know that though it's more obvious...

  16. The Emmys: HBO is nominations king

Looking over the Emmy nominations announced Thursday morning, you'd almost think that the TV academy was honoring two separate industries. For drama and made-for-TV movies and miniseries, it's HBO and its basic-cable cousins. For everything else, it's broadcast.

  22. March 2011 TV calendar: A look at upcoming premieres, specials

We're well into TV's midseason and the onslaught of series premieres or finales, special events and returning shows no sign of letting up. My top "must-see" beginning in March? The final 10 episodes of "Stargate Universe," which begin March 7 on Syfy. I've seen the first three; they're top notch with riveting portrayals of Destiny crew members, some mind-bending turns of events and downright incredible special effects. Here's a complete March TV calendar, or at least as complete as I can make it at this point. I'll keep adding to it as I learn about more new TV coming our way.
