5. Freddie Mercury biopic moves forward; Sacha Baron Cohen to star

Queen guitarist Brian May has reignited talk of a long-gestating Freddie Mercury biopic when he confirmed a shooting schedule and Sacha Baron Cohen’s participation as Mercury. While that information sinks in, think of Cohen, best known for his star-turns as bumbling Kazakh journalist Borat or flamboyant gossip reporter Bruno, strutting onstage in a bright green leotard singing “Fat Bottom Girls,” or reenacting key lyrical moments from “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

7. 'The Dictator'

Sacha Baron Cohen is back at it -- though his similarly satirical turns as Borat and Bruno, also done with director Larry Charles, had more bite -- in this comedy about a tyrannical foreign leader who comes to America and finds himself swept up in a series of very unexpected adventures.

11. Reel Critics: On 'The Dictator' and 'Battleship'

Sacha Baron Cohen is the king of bizarre, vulgar and shameless comedy.
Sacha Baron Cohen is the king of bizarre, vulgar and shameless comedy. He loves to roast every aspect of human decency on a skewer of nasty sarcasm. He used his incendiary formula as the audacious "Borat" and won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy in 2007....

15. Third time's the charm for 'Madagascar' ✭✭✭ 1/2

"Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted"is one of the fanciest, most carefully assembled cartoons ever put on the screen. The jokes come so fast that they're nearly subliminal. Plot points whiz by, and when things threaten to blur, there's a crazy musical number or a tightly worked out physical comedy routine involving a hippo or a penguin.

21. DVD Review: 'Hugo' doesn't disappoint

Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" — one of last year's best films — hits home video, straight off its ups and downs at the Oscars: five wins out of 11 nominations isn't anything to complain about, except the other six included all the biggest categories.

23. Film review: 'The Dictator' is humorous, but stretches bad taste

Sacha Baron Cohen's central shtick — semi-documentary episodes in which he entraps real people — has always, by its nature, had a built-in self-destruct mechanism. The more famous he becomes, the less likely that anyone will fall for his masquerades as Ali G, Borat and Bruno. With “The Dictator,” he finally abandons his “Candid Camera”-like stunts for a fully written script — perhaps with some improvisation — acted by professionals. In other words: No innocent bystanders were humiliated in the production of this motion picture.
