1. 'Peeples' Review: Funny, But You've Already Met These Parents

Reuters
May 10 (TheWrap.com) - There's a certain brand of comedy that's practically a genre unto itself — call it "Pre-Marital Mishaps on the Cape." They involve an impending wedding, embarrassment, awkward revelations, accidental ingestion of controlled...

3. Review: 'Peeples' a refreshing and warm romantic comedy

Tyler Perry is credited as a producer on "Peeples," but don't let that scare you away. Written and directed by Tina Gordon Chism, "Peeples" is witty, charming and light, standing apart from the heavy-handed moralizing of so many of Perry's own movies....

5. 'Peeples' takes the Fockers' formula for an African-American spin ★★ 1/2

"Peeples" is an African-American "Meet the Parents" that slips funnyman Craig Robinson into the Ben Stiller role. Casting the musically minded Robinson in this formula comedy about screwing up your first encounter with your potential in-laws is like replacing Stiller's Greg Focker with Jack Black.

9. ‘The Good Wife’: Great guest stars; a great future?

The TV Guy - Orlando Sentinel
The most reassuring TV news I heard last week: “The Good Wife” has no plans to take on “The Walking Dead” and woo young viewers. It's not an issue for the acclaimed CBS drama, which attracts older adults. “We really at this...

13. 'Lincoln' aims to enlighten as it entertains

In "Lincoln," director Steven Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner have pulled off the improbable: They have built this season's prestige hit around congressional proceedings that might seem more appropriate for C-SPAN than the big screen.

15. 'Lincoln': A political animal of a different kind ★★★★

"Lincoln" is a grave and surprisingly subtle magic trick, conjuring the past and an almost ridiculously impressive figure in ways that transcend art direction and the right stovepipe hat. Director Steven Spielberg's latest combines the most commonly shared notions we have of our 16th U.S. president — the folksy deliberation, the spindly gait, the all-seeing eye on the prize of history remade — with the behavior, idiosyncrasies and contradictions of an actual human being. It blends cinematic Americana with something grubbier and more interesting than Americana, and it does not look, act or behave like the usual perception of a Spielberg epic. It is smaller and quieter than that.

Everyone who has ever tuned into a cable channel has heard the names Natalee Holloway and Laci Peterson. Show hosts like Nancy Grace have used their TV pulpits to chronicle the disappearance of such white, female victims night after night.
