5. 'Tiny Pie' hits the spot

'Tiny Pie" by Mark Bailey and Michael Oatman first caught our eye when my colleague Pam Becker pointed out Edward Hemingway's witty illustration of the grown-up party on Elephant Lane that sets little Ellie on a quest to settle the rumble rumble rumble in her belly. The illustration, Becker noted, was a riff on a song by early jazz composer Jelly Roll Morton, "Animule Dance," in which elegantly attired elephants and other assorted creatures take to the dance floor.

  19. TV review: Amazon for kids safe but restrained

Amazon is smart to aim almost half of its pilot slate — six of the 14 shows it's put up for public perusal — at kids.
