  1. Todd Rundgren Comes to Infinity Music Hall in Norfolk on May 8

The forward-thinking guitarist/composer/producer Todd Rundgren, now in his fifth decade of active music-making, takes to the Infinity Hall stage on May 8. This guy's far from a rock dinosaur; he's been playing around with European EDM musicians lately (there's an album coming out soon, and a new single on his Soundcloud page), and last year he remixed Tame Impala's "Elephant." The Hawaii resident swung through Hartford a couple of years ago with a paisley-painted Gibson SG to perform two classic albums in their entirety, and while there's little word of what he'll drag out at this show, it certainly won't be boring.

  3. Coachella 2013: Essential tracks

This Coachella edition gathers new music by lesser-known artists gigging this weekend's music festival as well as one epic reissue by a recently reunited group. If you haven't the desire, money or constitution to spend three days surrounded by so many humans under the desert sun, you can find comfort in the tracks (and watch the whole event live online).

  5. Local Natives returns to Coachella with more perspective

At a placid outdoor table in the Silver Lake restaurant Local, the frontmen of Local Natives are drinking coffee and look entirely at home.

  7. Coachella 2013: Soulful devotion to new sounds

Even before the release of her debut album, the English singer Jessie Ware was attracting next-big-thing buzz with appearances on tracks by cutting-edge dance-music artists such as SBTRKT and Joker. But she wasn't born hip. "Growing up, I was the person...

  9. David Bowie, Justin Timberlake are stars of pop music's spring

The winter hibernation is nearing its end. Bleary-eyed musicians are crawling out of their windowless studios after months — and in some cases, years — of isolated dream-capturing. The bottomless espresso cup awaits, and a queue next to the stereo is stacked high with new sounds.

  11. Concert review: Tame Impala at the Vic

Kevin Parker, the lean singer in the Australian band Tame Impala, has skills that go beyond music -- like tap-dancing barefoot, for example.

  13. Local Q&A: On an On

Throughout nearly a decade, Scattered Trees evolved from a solo project into a full-on, major label-signed band, so it was with some reservation that founder and frontman Nate Eiesland pulled the plug on the local indie-rock crew after brothers Jason and Baron Harper left the group last summer.

  23. Tame Impala and the lonely pursuit of perfection

Kevin Parker, the Australian multi-instrumentalist who is the core member of Tame Impala, has a reputation for being obsessive about recording details. But even by his own impossibly high standards he went over the top in making Tame Impala’s second album, “Lonerism” (Modular Recordings).
