For the Jan. 29 Good Life section of Daily Press, I wrote a story about the growth and popularity of music streaming services, companies such as Spotify, Rhapsody and Pandora that allow easy access to cloud-based collections of millions of songs.

  3. Album of the Day 1/18/12: V/A - Urban Cowboy Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

I don't own a lot of "original motion picture" soundtracks.  To be honest most movie soundtracks just aren't worth owning in my book.  But there are a handful I own because either a) they break the trend and actually have more good music than bad or b) because it's a movie that I absolutely love.  In the case of Urban Cowboy it's a little from column A and a little from column B.

  7. Album of the Day 12/5/11: Emmylou Harris - Roses In The Snow

Anyone who knows me should know that I love old school country music. I especially love listening to timeless country albums from back in the day that hammer home my belief that the soulless bubble gum pop in cowboy hats being passed off by major labels as "country" today is nothing but fraudulent garbage.  This is one of those albums.

  23. The ballad of a classic guitar shop

Most Southland music fans know McCabe's Guitar Shop for the innumerable folk, country, blues, jazz and world-music concerts presented over the decades in the tiny back stockroom that can hold about 150 folding chairs when all the instrument cases are shoved out of the way.
