  5. Live review: Swedish House Mafia's Masquerade Motel

The snow machines were a welcome touch at Swedish House Mafia’s Friday farewell set in Chinatown. On a night with miserable outdoor concert weather -- chilly temperatures, with just enough rain to turn the L.A. State Historic Park into a frigid mud slurry -- when the trio of DJs kicked on the midfield snowblowers, you could almost pretend that you were actually raving astride a Swedish fjord. Almost.

  13. Swedish House Mafia goes out in epic style

If you're a musical group that's had a meteoric rise only to call it quits after about four years together, going big seems a fitting way to go out. Swedish House Mafia's farewell lap, dubbed "One Last Tour," made its way to Chicago at a sold-out United Center on Wednesday and it was an epic affair, complete with awesome lights, lasers, pyrotechnics and stage production. And though it may be the middle of winter, it felt more like the height of summer festival season: where synth builds and beats were as dense as the sweaty humidity radiating from a scantily clad, constantly undulating crowd. And they gave fans their money's worth, with an unrelenting two-hour set.

  21. Frank Ocean atop new R&B wave at Grammys

Frank Ocean is that rare artist whom polar opposites — skeptical tastemakers in it for the art and music-industry insiders obsessed with chart position — can agree on. Ocean's major-label debut, "Channel Orange," recently found itself comfortably atop the annual Village Voice poll of more than 700 critics nationwide. And Ocean is up for six awards at the 55th annual Grammys, which will be announced Sunday in Los Angeles (7 p.m. on CBS).
