Does anybody really know what time it is?
katec@herald-mail.com
Does anybody really know what time it is? Well, yes. Music Director Elizabeth Schulze and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra certainly do. It is time — 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 — for "Classic Rock Meets Orchestra," the pops concert of...

3. Don't be tardy for the party season

<a href="http://www.baltimoresun.com/features/bal-scene,0,5904857.special"> Baltimore's party season is off and running after getting its kickoff last night with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra gala, which many folks consider the unofficial start to the fall party season. The next three months may be the most intense time of year when it comes to the dozens of shindigs dedicated to raising money for a number of non-profit organizations. The parties themselves are as varied as the charities they support, and the crowds they draw.

5. 'Rock of Ages' seemed old and tired after the joy of 'Glee'

It is not a good idea to make a “Rock of Ages” movie in 2012. The film is based on a Broadway show that premiered in 2006. I’m sure that back then it seemed like a good idea to stage a musical about performers who sing recognizable 1980s hits. But we’ve seen the rise and fall of the very similar “Glee” in the meantime and now the formula seems played out.

7. 'Great Lake Warriors': Series about tugboats needs a nudge toward drama

The latest entry in a reality genre steeped in testosterone and cigarettes, "Great Lake Warriors," debuting Thursday on the History Channel, would not exist had "Deadliest Catch" not first charted the waters with a look at the men who ply their trade on the Bering Sea, battling the elements just to earn a lousy buck. Here in the Midwest, that weather-beaten honor goes to the grizzled captains and crew who work on tugboats.

15. Our Laguna: Festival of Arts opening night reminiscent of 1930s

The Festival of Arts celebrated its 80th season at an invitation-only party Saturday night that harkened to the 1930s.
The Festival of Arts celebrated its 80th season at an invitation-only party Saturday night that harkened to the 1930s. But it was this year's show that created the buzz. "It is stunning," said Rosemary Swimm, wife of artist Tom Swimm, who was decked out...

17. Reel Critics: 'Rock of Ages' full of energy and fun

The pop music of the 1980s was full of Rock 'n' Roll anthems void of any deep meaning or political activism. Bands like Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi and the Scorpions filled arenas with loud but melodic hit songs. Most were about partying too hard, but the bands' softer love songs expanded their fan base.

Pop & Hiss
Nickelback has no official connection to the big-screen version of “Rock of Ages,” but on Friday night at Staples Center, it was hard not to think of the just-opened movie musical -- a flashy-trashy dramatization of the 1980s hard-rock scene.....
