    <span style=&quot;font-size: small;">Carrie Underwood has found a new way to spread music to fans, as she will be playing the iconic &ldquo;Maria Von Trapp,&rdquo; in NBC&rsquo;s live broadcast of The Sound of Music. Julie Andrews played the legendary role in the famous 1965 film, and she is someone Carrie idolized at a young age. Carrie has yet to meet Julie, but she hopes to take what she has learned from her, and create her own vision of the character. &ldquo;At some point I would love to meet her, just because she is someone I grew up watching and listening too. But, no one can touch her, I am not her and I will never be her. She holds such an iconic place in so many people&rsquo;s hearts. I think it is really important for me to read the script, watch other musicals and kind of get into the whole musical space verses the movie space &ndash; which she was so wonderful in.&rdquo; In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Julie says she will &ldquo;endorse everything&rdquo; about The Sound of Music broadcast, and &ldquo;would love to know Carrie!&rdquo; The three-hour live remake of The Sound of Music will air in late 2013 on NBC.</span>

    No matter whether your mother's taste &mdash; or your memory of her, for that matter &mdash; is sweet or sour, the American Cinematheque has Mother's Day programming to suit the occasion.
