  1. 'Cabin in the Woods' provides snark and scares ✭✭ 1/2

A peppy horror mash-up with existential airs, &quot; The Cabin in the Woods"goes completely nuts in its final half-hour and is all the better for it. Writers lie about this sort of thing constantly, but according to screenwriters Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, who cut their eyeteeth on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" among other credits, the script came together in three days, in the spirit of "Let's try <em>that</em> too."

  3. My favorite moments of 2012

Years ago when I was a student at Northwestern University, a handful of executives at America Online came to my class and explained that you, I and everyone we know would soon find ourselves pleasantly stranded on &quot;information islands." We nodded, though we didn't entirely understand. What they meant was that broadcasting would soon end and <em>nichecasting</em> would take over. Your island would become a mirror of yourself, what you knew, liked and watched, and you would rarely have the incentive to venture off of your narrowly prescribed landmass.

  9. 'World War Z' Review: Humanity Under Attack - and That's Just the Script

    Reuters
Jun 18 (TheWrap.com) - Globe-trotting isn't something we get in a lot of horror films -- usually, the more confined the space, the better. But there's a definite reason that "world" is in the title "World War Z," an apocalyptic thriller that imagines a...

  11. 'Much Ado About Nothing' Review: The Fault Lies in the Co-Star

    Reuters
Jun 04 (TheWrap.com) - If we were grading "Much Ado About Nothing" purely on daring, Joss Whedon would deserve heaps of praise for following up one of the highest-grossing movies ever made, "The Avengers," with a low-budget Shakespeare film, reportedly...

When architect Kai Cole began designing her Mediterranean-style Santa Monica home, she weighed all the usual concerns &mdash; space, light, flow &mdash; along with one quite specific to her family's needs: where to hold the Shakespeare readings.

  17. 'The Cabin in the Woods'

As suggested by the writing-producing involvement of genre icon Joss Whedon (&quot;Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), there's a bit more to this horror tale than it might first seem, though it lures a group of teens to the title cabin where terror awaits them.

  19. Like/dislike: Alex Greenland, Baltimore Improv Group

Improv is a sport &mdash; you are challenged mentally (and sometimes physically) to perform on your feet for an audience that wants to be entertained. These demands would scare most people off the stage, but for Alex Greenland, they do just the opposite.

&quot; The Cabin in the Woods" is a new horror movie that hit theaters last weekend.
    WDBJ7 Movie Critic
"The Cabin in the Woods" is a new horror movie that hit theaters last weekend. WDBJ7's Chris Jenkins tells us if it's any good. "The Cabin in the Woods" is different, and in the horror genre that is hard to pull off.  It's a little like "The Evil Dead"...
