  1. 'Lincoln' Leads Oscar Race With 12 Nods

    <span style=&quot;font-size: small;">&ldquo;Lincoln,&rdquo; &ldquo;Zero Dark Thirty,&rdquo; &ldquo;Argo&rdquo; and &ldquo;Les Miserables&rdquo; earned multiple Oscar nominations &ndash; and put Steven Spielberg on track to win his third Academy Award for best director. Those four films earned best picture nominations along with &ldquo;Life of Pi&rdquo; and &ldquo;Silver Linings Playbook.&rdquo; Best actor nominees included Daniel Day-Lewis for &ldquo;Lincoln,&rdquo; Bradley Cooper for &ldquo;Silver Linings Playbook&rdquo; and Denzel Washington for &ldquo;Flight.&rdquo; Best actress nominees included Jessica Chastain for &ldquo;Zero Dark Thirty&rdquo; and Jennifer Lawrence for &ldquo;Silver Linings Playbook.&rdquo;Along with Spielberg, the nominees for best director included Kathryn Bigelow for &ldquo;Zero Dark Thirty,&rdquo; Ang Lee for &ldquo;Life of Pi&rdquo; and Ben Affleck for &ldquo;Argo.&rdquo; The 85th annual Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood &amp; Highland on Feb. 24 and telecast live on ABC.   2. LINCOLN TOPS OSCAR NOMINEES

    <strong><span style=&quot;color: black;">Steven Spielberg&rsquo;s</span></strong><span style="color: black;"> epic <em>Lincoln</em> leads the list of nominees for the <em>85th Annual Academy Awards</em>, nabbing 12 nods, including Best Picture, Best Director (Spielberg), Best Actor (<strong>Daniel Day-Lewis</strong>), Best Supporting Actress (<strong>Sally Field</strong>) and Best Supporting Actor (<strong>Tommy Lee Jones</strong>). Coming in close behind is <em>Life of Pi</em>, with 11 nominations. Competing against both films for Best Picture are <em>Silver Linings Playbook, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained. Amour </em>and<em> Les Mis&eacute;rables</em>. The biggest snubs of the day came in the Best Director category. Although they were considered locks, both <strong>Ben Affleck</strong> and <strong>Kathryn Bigelow</strong> failed to get recognized, despite both of their films, <em>Argo</em> and <em>Zero Dark Thirty</em>, nabbing Best Picture nominations. (<em>Les Mis&eacute;rables</em> director <strong>Tom Hooper</strong> was also snubbed in the category, although he wasn&rsquo;t considered as much of a shoe-in.) Other interesting Oscar tidbits: all five nominees in the Best Supporting Actor category (Jones, <strong>Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christoph Waltz, Alan Arkin </strong>and<strong> Robert DeNiro</strong>) are past Oscar winners. <em>Amour&rsquo;s</em> <strong>Emmanuelle Riva</strong>, who is 85, is the oldest Best Actress nominee ever, while <em>Beasts of the Southern Wild&rsquo;s</em> <strong>Quvenzhan&eacute; [Qua-VEN-zha-ne] Wallis</strong> is the youngest Best Actress Oscar nominee ever at 9 (she was six when she shot the film). <strong>Leonardo DiCaprio</strong>, who received a Golden Globe nod for <em>Django Unchained</em>, failed to get a nomination. &nbsp;This year&rsquo;s Oscar host, <strong>Seth MacFarlane</strong> received a nod for Best Original Song for his <em>Ted</em> tune &ldquo;Everybody Needs A Best Friend.&rdquo; And <strong>Christopher Nolan&rsquo;s</strong> <em>The Dark Knight Rises</em> didn&rsquo;t get any nominations, not even in technical categories.</span><a href="http://oscar.go.com/nominees"><span style="color: #1155cc;">Click here</span></a><span style="color: black;"> for a complete list of nominees.     <span>Steven Spielberg&rsquo;s historical drama &ldquo;Lincoln&rdquo; was nominated for a leading seven Golden Globe Awards, including Best Drama, yesterday morning. Quentin Tarantino&rsquo;s blood-soaked, 19th century-set revenge picture &ldquo;Django Unchained&rdquo; and Ben Affleck&rsquo;s Iran hostage-crisis nail-biter are each up for five prizes, while the movie musical &ldquo;Les Miserables,&rdquo; the mental-illness comedy &ldquo;Silver Linings Playbook&rdquo; and the hunt-for-Osama-bin-Laden thriller &ldquo;Zero Dark Thirty&rdquo; each earned four nods.   12. Phasers Set for Stun! Star Trek Sequel Starts

    Paramount Pictures has officially announced that J.J. Abrams has started principal photography on his highly anticipated sequel to 2009's Star Trek. So who's the bad guy this time around? Not much is known storywise about the revived franchise's latest installment, including its title. But the reboot's creation of a parallel universe essentially gives the Lost mastermind carte blanche to take the crew of the Enterprise on all new missions. That said, if Internet rumors are to be believed, Abrams plans to resurrect Captain James T. Kirk's number one nemesis, Khan, who as Trek history has it was blown to bits in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, unquestionably the best movie of the original William Shatner-led bunch. Benedict Cumberbatch, a fast-rising British thesp who's currently starring in the BBC's Sherlock series, appears in Steven Spielberg's War Horse and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and is lending his voice to the dragon Smaug in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, has snagged a key role in the follow-up. MORE: Star Trek Sequel Scoop: Still Waiting to See the Script Per IMDb.com, he's rumored to be playing the Shakespeare-quoting superhuman first played to perfection by Ricardo Montalban in the original series and then on the big screen, a part producers were said to have initially offered Benicio Del Toro. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Anton Yelchin will all be back as Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Dr. &quot;Bones" McCoy, Scotty, Sulu and Chekhov respectively. Joining them will also be new castmembers Alice Eve and Peter Weller, the latter of Buckaroo Bonzai and Robocop fame. The original Abrams-helmed Star Trek grossed a stellar $385 million in worldwide ticket sales after its release on May 8, 2009. Kirk and company's latest sci-fi adventure, penned by the filmmaker's go-to writing duo of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci along with Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, beams into theaters on May 17, 2013, and&mdash;boldly going where no Trek film has gone before&mdash;in 3-D too.
