  3. Patt Morrison Asks: Inside guy, Buck Henry

Buck Henry arguably made his showbiz debut at the age of 2, when his mother, the silent film star Ruth Taylor, took him to the Paramount lot to show him off. She denied then that she wanted him to go into movies. Sorry, Mom. Henry has become a polymath of directing, acting, and for my money, especially writing -- "The Graduate"; "Catch-22"; that fine dark comedy of manners, "To Die For"; TV's "Get Smart," with Mel Brooks; and a generation later, the seminal "Saturday Night Live" -- which he hosted for a then-record-setting 10 times. He beavers away on screenplays, plays and sundry prose; I pestered him into a lunch interview in West Hollywood. It was engagingly packed, with talk of the pleasures of "Hamlet" in German and a Hollywood/not Hollywood commentary on passing paraders, delivered with spare humor as dry as the natron used to stuff mummies. Hey -- isn't there a script in there somewhere?

    Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
Would you believe . . . $39.2 million? The old espionage spoof trick worked to push Steve Carell's "Get Smart," the big screen update of the 1960s spy sitcom, to the top of the box office over the weekend. Although reviews were mixed, the Warner Bros....

  11. 10 things you may not know about 'Get Smart's' Masi Oka

Attention "Heroes" fans: Production on Season 3 is well underway, and four episodes are in the can. You may start snooping for spoilers….now! Just don't ask for any from Masi Oka, the 33-year-old who plays time-traveler Hiro Nakamura and stars opposite Steve Carell in the update of "Get Smart." "Everyone dies. It's actually being rebooted this season as 'Heroes: The Animals,'" he says. No, seriously Masi, is Adam coming back? Is Nathan really dead? Is Nikki? "Seriously! There are alligators and cats and dogs and dinosaurs. It's going to be awesome!"

  23. Movie Review: 'Get Smart'

Missed it by that much. Actually, the new version of "Get Smart" misses by a fair-size margin. It's too bad. It's just trying to give us a good time at the retroplex. Even if you're 14 and you've never heard Irving Szathmary's classic deedley-deedley-...
